Description

        Hydrangea flowers are made up of sepals, which are petal-like structures; they are typically 2 to less than 5.5 cm in diameter. Hydrangea sepals can change color depending on the soil’s pH and aluminum content. If Hydrangea is planted in alkaline soil, the sepals will be pink; in acidic soil, the sepals will be blue. Red or pink blooms result from neutral or basic soil (pH 7 and above), whereas blue blooms indicate acidic conditions (pH less than 7).

         Hydrangea leaves are ovate with a pointed tip and serrated tooth margins. They can grow up to 15 cm long and 12.5 cm wide. Sometimes hydrangea leaves grow with autumn colors, such as light green mixed with pink and red. Generally, hydrangea leaves are thick, medium to dark green, glossy, and held opposite the stems.

They are typically a mixture of showy, sterile, and less prominently fertile flowers. Most hydrangea flowers work well when cut or dried for decorative purposes.
