Rhyncholaeliocattleya Pink Diamond is an orchid hybrid that was created by C.Iamsethi in 1982. It is a cross between Cattleya Queen and Rhyncholaeliocattleya Ewart McDonald that created the name Rhyncholaeliocattleya Pink Diamond, which is currently accepted by the RHS.
Rhyncholaeliocattleya Pink Diamond orchid features large, showy pearl-shiny flowers with a distinct shape and captivating colors. It produces large, purple-pink flowers with sprinkled edges.
The petals are ovary-shaped with a big lower part, and both petals and sepals are predominantly a soft purple-pink color. The edges of the petals are frilled and transition to a more intense pink hue. The soft purple-pink base creates a delicate backdrop for the vibrant lip of the flower.
The lip (labellum) of the orchid is large and has a striking deep magenta purplish shade. It has a yellow and white center, creating a beautiful contrast against the purple-pink petals. The lip serves as a focal point, drawing attention to the intricate details within.
The anther cap appears as a prominent, bulbous, white structure with a smooth surface. Positioned at the center of the column, it protects the pollen grains. Its rounded, lobed shape adds to the orchid’s elegance. The column, also known as the gynostemium, is visible just below the anther cap. It presents as a pale pink to white tapered structure. Within the column lie the flower’s reproductive organs, including the stigma and style.
