Description

        Poinsettia leaves are thin, dark green, broadly ovate, and have smooth edges or pointed lobes. They have a long, thin tip and are specialized leaves called bracts. The bracts are often mistaken for flower petals, but they are leaves. The flowers are the tiny, yellow berry-like structures at the center of each leaf bract, which are called cyathia.

        Poinsettia leaves can change from green to red due to photoperiodism, which causes the leaves to undergo this process after a certain amount of light, but there are also cultivars with pink or white bracts. Other bract colors include yellow, orange, and variegated.

        Poinsettia leaf cutters are used to make realistic poinsettia leaves and can be assembled into poinsettia plants that are decorations for Christmas. Realistic poinsettia leaves can be sculpted with air-dried polymer clay, fondants, and sugar icing paste.
