         Tulips are herbaceous perennials in the genus Tulipa that bloom in spring and are usually large, showy, and brightly colored. They come in almost every color available, in shades of red, orange, pink, yellow, purple, light green, and white, often with colored spots at the base of the tepals. They are native to Central Asia and Turkey. They typically have one flower per stem, although a few species have up to four flowers on a single stem. Tulip flowers are bell-shaped with 3 petals, 3 sepals, and 6 free stamens (the male reproductive part of the plant). Tulip flowers can be large, 2 to 6 inches across, and tulip plants can be between 4 and 28 inches high. Tulip stems have few leaves. Larger species tend to have multiple leaves.
