Description

        Oncidium, also known as dancing lady orchids, butterfly orchids, fragrant orchids, golden shower orchids, bee orchids, and tiger orchids, contains about 340 species of orchids from the subtribe Oncidiinae of the orchid family Orchidaceae. Oncidiums are native to tropical and subtropical America and can grow from sea level in the tropics to high elevations in the Andes.

They can be found in three main categories, each with a different type of pattern:
        The first category features green pseudobulbs and long racemes with small flowers and a dominant lip.
The most common color in this category is golden yellow, possibly with a red-brown border. Other possible flower colors include brown, yellow, white, pink, and deep red.
      The second category tends to have small pseudobulbs, stiff, solitary leaves, and long racemes. These orchids usually have yellow flowers that fan out on the top of their racemes.
         Equitant Oncidiums are a type of Oncidium orchid in the third category that does not have pseudobulbs. Instead, they feature fan-shaped shoots with triangular sections of leaves. Their flowers are often beautifully complicated and have great colors.

Oncidium species have the following properties:
The presence of column wings and a complicated callus on the lip. One or two leaves with pseudobulbs with several basal bracts at the base of the pseudobulbs. The flowers come in shades of yellow, red, white, and pink. The petals are often ruffled on the edges, as is the lip. The lip is enormous, partially blocking the small petals and sepals.
