Fuchsia leaves come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they share some common characteristics, such as being variable and elliptic to ovate.

The most common shape is elliptic or ovate. Elliptic means slightly wider in the middle and tapering towards both ends, while ovate is similar but slightly broader towards the base. Some varieties might have more elongated or rounded shapes. Leaf size can vary depending on the specific Fuchsia species and variety. Generally, they range from 1–25 cm (0.4–10 inches) long. Most fuchsia leaves have smooth edges, lacking any teeth or indentations. In a few rare Fuchsia species, the leaf margins might be slightly serrated (having small, saw-like teeth). The tip of the leaf typically tapers to a distinct point. Fuchsia leaves are known for their thick and leathery texture. This provides support and protection from the environment. The surface of the leaves is often glossy, adding to their ornamental appeal.

The leaves have a prominent central vein running lengthwise down the center. Smaller lateral veins branch out on either side of the central vein, forming a network that helps transport water and nutrients. There are some additional points to consider. Fuchsia leaves can be arranged oppositely (two leaves per node) or in whorls of three to five. While most Fuchsia leaves are green, some varieties have variegation with splashes of yellow, cream, or purple.
