Buttercups are a genus of flowering plants with shiny yellow petals. They are part of the Ranunculus family and are primarily perennial, but can also be annual or biennial. Buttercups have five green sepals, five to many glossy yellow petals, and many male and female structures. They can be aquatic or terrestrial plants, and often have leaves in a rosette at the base of the stem.
